GERMANTOWN & GRAVERS MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Adaptive reuse, renovations and a major addition to this late 19th century vernacular Queen Anne house and Colonial Revival shop at the center of Chestnut Hill’s commercial corridor have yielded a remarkable mixed use building combining first floor retail space with two residential condominiums joined as a single residence.  Two bluestone roof terraces on the second floor and a third floor porch provide outdoor rooms for the living space, as does a cobbled and stone walled parking court to the rear.  Traditional roof forms and high quality materials including cedar shingles, slate and local schist stone juxtapose a light-filled interior plan with finely crafted artisan millwork and cabinetry that is at once contemporary and traditional.  4,000 square feet of retail commercial space divided into small shops compatible with the historic fabric of the 200 year old business district fronts both Germantown Avenue and East Gravers Lane.
